Girls on the Run of Northern Arizona is proud to announce Tess Siemens has been awarded the 2016 Sara Morley Girls on the Run Spirit Scholarship. The $1000 award to be used for higher education expenses will be presented by Kate Morley on Saturday June 25th at the Vista Hospice Run for Life. In her application, Tess shared: “Girls on the Run has inspired a lifelong passion for exercise… Running keeps me healthy both physically and mentally, and between the support of my mother and the encouragement from Girls on the Run it has turned into a lifelong passion.”
A Flagstaff native, Tess participated in the Girls on the Run program in her 4th grade year at Marshall Magnet Elementary School. Last month, Tess graduated from Flagstaff High School. While at FHS, Tess was active in sports and community service receiving several awards in both areas. Tess plans to study Biochemistry and Spanish at The University of Arizona Honors College in the fall.
The Sara Morley Girls on the Run Spirit Scholarship was started by Girls on the Run of Northern Arizona in 2014 in partnership with Vista Hospice, Soroptimist International of the Arizona Peaks, and many individual community members, to honor the life of Sara Morley- a woman who worked tirelessly to keep Girls on the Run alive in northern Arizona. Sara’s deep commitment to public service, belief in the limitless potential of every girl and passionate participation in life helped define her Girls on the Run Spirit. The winner of the Sara Morley Girls on the Run Spirit Scholarship exemplifies Sara’s passion for her community, strength as a woman and kind spirit. To date, over $16,000 has been raised for the scholarship fund, which the organization will award each year to an outstanding Girls on the Run program alumna as she pursues higher education.
